Controlling The Tongue
In the New Testament of the Bible St. James says at 3:8 “...but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.”
Since Biblical times, and probably before, people have struggled to control their tongues, it is very easy to say something that can cause offense, and this can have repercussions at a later date that we never intended. There is an old phrase: “I had to bite my tongue,” meaning to stop saying something. It is not far from the truth, although painful in practice. The solution I came up with was to curl the tongue up and touch the roof of the mouth with the tip in such situations, it is difficult to say anything in such a position. This takes a little practice for it to become second nature, but is a life skill worth having.
